The Pan Pacific Defense Corps is an organization set up to battle the Kaiju threat through the use of Jaegers. Founded in 2014, the Corps represents an international alliance of 21 nations across the Pacific Rim, bound together by the shared goal of containing, combating and eliminating the Kaiju threat and save humanity from extinction.

In 2014, after the first Kaiju attack on San Francisco, the Pan Pacific Defense Corps was created with the purpose of defending the various countries surrounding the Pacific Ocean that would be under attack from the Kaiju. Soon after, the headquarters of the Pan Pacific Defense Corps was established in Hong Kong, China, this being the first Shatterdome. After Dr. Jasper Schoenfeld pitched the idea of creating giant mechs to battle the kaiju, the Corps were formed to fund the Jaeger Program.

SO, YOU WANT TO PILOT A JAEGER. LET'S SEE IF YOU'RE UP TO SNUFF.

Welcome to Kodiak Island. For the next 24 weeks you'll have the chance to prove that you've got what it takes to be among the few who can pilot a Jaeger. We need capable pilots, so if you don't think you can hack it, better drop out now. The course will follow the following format, so listen up, you have:

1) OFFICER TRAINING:
You will be studying tactics, some engineering, basic kaiju science, etc. Study good and study hard and if you're lucky enough to make the cut, we'll be shipping your sorry asses on to —

2) PONS TRAINING:
There is a mock-pod simulator where you will learn how to drift with your chosen partner. Can't find a partner? Too bad. You might have the physical skills and the brains to go with it, but if you can't bring yourself to work with another human being, then what the hell are you doing here.

3) JAEGER TRAINING:
Alright, you've made it. Report to the test range and get your asses in a Jaeger.

[ luna's got this, too. she's just got different methods of preparing for this, she's always been more of a doer than a thinker and sitting still for as long as it might take her to go through all the study material he deems relevant? not going to happen. instead, she comes back from the gym to the room they share ( bunk beds and all ), hoisting herself up onto the top bunk. ]

she's the second youngest admitted to the academy, only mako was younger. ( chuck tries not to care about that. ) that's a start.

she sits down down by her dad's side in the mess hall, only some chicken and rice on her plate because seriously, the food sucks no matter where they go, airforce bases or shatterdomes, max settling down by her feet. ] It's boring.

[ no one else gets it, half of them aren't even dedicated, are just in it for shits and giggles and the glory and chuck considers it a personal affront, really. ]

[ jim kirk's a good pilot, but he's also unpredictable and doesn't follow any bloody protocol and frankly, chuck doesn't really care about the protocol, but she cares about her own survival and people not fucking that up and he just got pretty close.

( fair enough, in the end he and his co-pilot managed to save the day. and yeah, it was only a simulation, but still. this is the kind of guy supposed to watch her back in a jaeger at some point?

so instead of making her way to the kwoon even though she loves the training classes best of all, she stops him in the corridor. ] The fuck is your problem, Kirk?

[ He wanders into the mess (Raleigh's still spending energy at the gym, so much energy what the hell are you the energizer bunny no don't answer that), his readings for kaiju science tucked under one arms only to find that there's not a table that isn't full.

Great.

He makes a beeline for the counter then, asks if they have coffee and smiles gratefully when they hand him a cup. He's inhaling the fumes as he turns around, eyes still darting for an open seat. ]

[ spock has been given access to the psych evaluations and recommendations, something rarely done — but as he is both part of the scientific staff and the candidate in question, exceptions were made. james kirk and he do appear to be drift compatible, based on the scans, the evals — and based on their sessions in the kwoon.

spock is willing to accept these facts. he trusts the selection procedures. ( not only because he had a hand in creating them. ) it is still — disconcerting, surprising that he should be drift compatible with james t. kirk who, for all intents and purposes, is his precise opposite.

it does not matter. he waits for kirk in the hangar bay, hands clasped behind his back, at the foot of the jaeger they are meant to pilot together. ]

Already did. [ late at night while she couldn't sleep with a tiny torch underneath the duvet. it had reminded her of being a child, except the reading material had differed considerably from back then. she lifts her shoulders in a shrug, lips pulling into a grin that says what, surprised?.

he reads and thinks and works methodically. luna goes out and does things, she spars with their instructors and they end up recapitulating the most important points from class and then elaborating on them, she goes out for coffee with tendo choi — and then she comes back and bugs her brother about his cliff notes. ]
