The Pan Pacific Defense Corps is an organization set up to battle the Kaiju threat through the use of Jaegers. Founded in 2014, the Corps represents an international alliance of 21 nations across the Pacific Rim, bound together by the shared goal of containing, combating and eliminating the Kaiju threat and save humanity from extinction.

In 2014, after the first Kaiju attack on San Francisco, the Pan Pacific Defense Corps was created with the purpose of defending the various countries surrounding the Pacific Ocean that would be under attack from the Kaiju. Soon after, the headquarters of the Pan Pacific Defense Corps was established in Hong Kong, China, this being the first Shatterdome. After Dr. Jasper Schoenfeld pitched the idea of creating giant mechs to battle the kaiju, the Corps were formed to fund the Jaeger Program.

SO, YOU WANT TO PILOT A JAEGER. LET'S SEE IF YOU'RE UP TO SNUFF.

Welcome to Kodiak Island. For the next 24 weeks you'll have the chance to prove that you've got what it takes to be among the few who can pilot a Jaeger. We need capable pilots, so if you don't think you can hack it, better drop out now. The course will follow the following format, so listen up, you have:

1) OFFICER TRAINING:
You will be studying tactics, some engineering, basic kaiju science, etc. Study good and study hard and if you're lucky enough to make the cut, we'll be shipping your sorry asses on to —

2) PONS TRAINING:
There is a mock-pod simulator where you will learn how to drift with your chosen partner. Can't find a partner? Too bad. You might have the physical skills and the brains to go with it, but if you can't bring yourself to work with another human being, then what the hell are you doing here.

3) JAEGER TRAINING:
Alright, you've made it. Report to the test range and get your asses in a Jaeger.

INSTRUCTIONS →
1. Post with your character/canon/preferences.
(Mod Note: Pacific Rim OCs are very much welcome, if not encouraged.)
2. Tag others. Tag a LOT.
3. Have FUN or we'll feed you to the kaiju.

[ spock has been given access to the psych evaluations and recommendations, something rarely done — but as he is both part of the scientific staff and the candidate in question, exceptions were made. james kirk and he do appear to be drift compatible, based on the scans, the evals — and based on their sessions in the kwoon.

spock is willing to accept these facts. he trusts the selection procedures. ( not only because he had a hand in creating them. ) it is still — disconcerting, surprising that he should be drift compatible with james t. kirk who, for all intents and purposes, is his precise opposite.

it does not matter. he waits for kirk in the hangar bay, hands clasped behind his back, at the foot of the jaeger they are meant to pilot together.

[ and jim doesn't necessarily have access to the psych evals because he's the favorite golden boy - it's more like, he ... snooped. sort of. maybe he hacked in using stacker's account that has access to pretty much everything ever, and maybe tendo was the middle man that smiled at him as he passed him by in the mess hall, but this is really not the point.

the point is that he's seen the evals and wow, if you think that jim didn't throw a silent bitch fit at the thought of piloting with spock then you are wrong, sir. the problem is - he knows he's compatible with spock. the training exercises they've done together proved that much. he can talk all he wants - in his movements and in real life - and spock just responds in kind, like he knows exactly how to talk jim down with only a twitch of his eyebrow. the other problem is that they are opposites, and jim may not dislike spock as much as other people think, but he's still a long way from actually liking the guy.

still, he wants to pilot the enterprise - it's been his lifelong goal since the jaeger was still in construction, and now that she's ready to be tried and tested he's just all too willing to do just about anything to get his hands on her.

( yes, it's a her, don't you fight him on that. )

he arrives at the hangar bay promptly, greeting spock with a a clap to his shoulder and a shit-eating grin on his face.

So you're my co-pilot, Spock? This is gonna be fun.

[ while spock might have been impressed with the skill and ingenuity of the way in which jim has gained access to the files if he knew about it ( and he might learn of it soon enough, when they drift ), he would be entirely unimpressed with the fact that jim kirk essentially cheated and hacked his way into them. that is not behaviour becoming of a ppdc ranger.

the point is that it does not matter whether they like one another or not. they are not doing this for fun; at least spock is not and for all that jim kirk runs his mouth and has an insubordinate streak a mile wide, for all that he is cocky, spock does not think that jim does, either, or at least not only. he probably chases his own pleasure far more than spock does. so long as it is not his primary motivation, spock is willing to overlook that.

( the jaeger is a her. they are in agreement even if it is illogical to consider a machine personalised and spock is well aware of it. )

spock looks down at the hand on his shoulder, before raising an eyebrow in the face of jim's grin. fun. perhaps he had been a little premature in his considerations.

So it would appear.
