The Pan Pacific Defense Corps is an organization set up to battle the Kaiju threat through the use of Jaegers. Founded in 2014, the Corps represents an international alliance of 21 nations across the Pacific Rim, bound together by the shared goal of containing, combating and eliminating the Kaiju threat and save humanity from extinction.
In 2014, after the first Kaiju attack on San Francisco, the Pan Pacific Defense Corps was created with the purpose of defending the various countries surrounding the Pacific Ocean that would be under attack from the Kaiju. Soon after, the headquarters of the Pan Pacific Defense Corps was established in Hong Kong, China, this being the first Shatterdome. After Dr. Jasper Schoenfeld pitched the idea of creating giant mechs to battle the kaiju, the Corps were formed to fund the Jaeger Program.

Welcome to Kodiak Island. For the next 24 weeks you'll have the chance to prove that you've got what it takes to be among the few who can pilot a Jaeger. We need capable pilots, so if you don't think you can hack it, better drop out now. The course will follow the following format, so listen up, you have: 1) OFFICER TRAINING: You will be studying tactics, some engineering, basic kaiju science, etc. Study good and study hard and if you're lucky enough to make the cut, we'll be shipping your sorry asses on to — 2) PONS TRAINING: There is a mock-pod simulator where you will learn how to drift with your chosen partner. Can't find a partner? Too bad. You might have the physical skills and the brains to go with it, but if you can't bring yourself to work with another human being, then what the hell are you doing here. 3) JAEGER TRAINING: Alright, you've made it. Report to the test range and get your asses in a Jaeger. INSTRUCTIONS → 1. Post with your character/canon/preferences. (Mod Note: Pacific Rim OCs are very much welcome, if not encouraged.) 2. Tag others. Tag a LOT. 3. Have FUN or we'll feed you to the kaiju. |

vengeance is a powerful thing, but it isn't all that drives him. he fights for his wife, but he fights for the good of mankind. it's why he'd been a pilot in the first place. some would call it love, but Herc can barely say the word, nevermind cite it as an explanation for fighting.
Lucky Seven was his brother's suggestion. Herc could agree that they needed all the luck they could get, but it wasn't luck that won a fight, it was sheer force of will and the tenacity to take the shot when it presented itself. they come back from their first fight victorious but their brand of fighting was something to be desired. reckless was a way to describe it. dirty brawling was another. Herc was trained, Scott was a card shark. somehow they made it work. ]

She's waiting for them when they disembark from Lucky Seven, dressed more like a soldier than a scientist (she will occasionally throw on her lab coat, but she will choose fatigues over corporate attire any day), a smile on her face and her tablet in her hand. ]
Welcome back, rangers. Good job out there.
[ Tamsin and the Marshal are out, deployed by LOCCENT to do patrols, which leaves her as the most senior-ranking officer present, with the exception of her copilot who is currently off beating the egos out of the new recruits. ]

Thank ya, gorgeous.
[ Scott drawls, and Herc's jaw clicks as it tightens but he doesn't cast his brother the withering look he wants to. Caitlin is the whole reason they're here to begin with, she deserves all of their respect and then some. But that'll be lost on his brother, so he doesn't bother. Instead, he speaks up to stop his brother from saying anything else. ]
Long as we keep those suckers from comin' close, I'd say so, Doctor.

Well.
She gives Scott a polite smile, thinks keep that up buster and you won't have to worry about Ranger D'Onofrio shoving his boot so far up your ass your laces will come out your nose - because I will do it myself and then turns her attention to Herc. ]
I saw the takedown from LOCCENT, it was brutal, but effective. As long as the kaiju stay down, I don't think anyone has anything to complain about.
[ She gestures for them to walk, a tilt of the head and a smile. ] Medical will want a look at you boys. Just the routine check-up and then you're free to spend the afternoon as you wish. [ She doesn't add how Herc's son had been up in LOCCENT with her, wide-eyed and rapt in attention as the whole thing went down. ]

There are a few greetings from other cadets and personnel as she walks down the halls; she returns them dutifully. Being a cadet means having to wear utilitarian clothing, and as much as Lydia doesn't mind it most of the time, there are times when she wishes that she could put on an actual dress. She knows it isn't practical, so she makes the most out of the standard-issue tank top, minding her posture as she goes past people.
She arrives at Lightcap's office door. ]
You wanted to see me, Dr. Lightcap?
[ She doesn't care much about most of the population here in the island, but Caitlin Lightcap is something else. Using science to kick ass and save the world? Lydia thinks it's the best thing ever. ]
o hello
Caitlin keeps her door always open, closes it only when she is out, teaching or doing something else. So it's not unusual for Caitlin to have students pop in now and then.
This, however, is a special case. She doesn't call cadets in for a talk. That's Sergio's job.
She closes her laptop and looks up at the redhead with a smile, gestures to the empty seat on the other side of the table for her to sit down. ]
Yes, Lydia. I just wanted to check in with you.
[ Translation: I was told by your instructors that you are not proceeding with Pons Training even if you have consistently managed to put yourself at the top of your class. This is me wanting to know why. ]
i come with good tidings!
She sits down in the offered chair, looking at Dr. Lightcap expectantly. She isn't about to broach the subject herself, so she waits for the Dr. Lightcap to proceed. ]

I think we can cut to the chase.
You're not proceeding with Pons Training and I would like to hear your side of why. [ If she sounds authoritative, it's because she's got her teacher hat on. ] Is it that you haven't found a suitable partner for the compatibility test?
[ Caitlin really doesn't think that it's that. Based on observation and talk alone, she knows that Lydia's a social creature, well-adjusted and well-liked ( among other things ) by her fellow cadets. Caitlin can name three people who could pair up with the girl. So it must be some other reason. ]
