The Pan Pacific Defense Corps is an organization set up to battle the Kaiju threat through the use of Jaegers. Founded in 2014, the Corps represents an international alliance of 21 nations across the Pacific Rim, bound together by the shared goal of containing, combating and eliminating the Kaiju threat and save humanity from extinction.

In 2014, after the first Kaiju attack on San Francisco, the Pan Pacific Defense Corps was created with the purpose of defending the various countries surrounding the Pacific Ocean that would be under attack from the Kaiju. Soon after, the headquarters of the Pan Pacific Defense Corps was established in Hong Kong, China, this being the first Shatterdome. After Dr. Jasper Schoenfeld pitched the idea of creating giant mechs to battle the kaiju, the Corps were formed to fund the Jaeger Program.

SO, YOU WANT TO PILOT A JAEGER. LET'S SEE IF YOU'RE UP TO SNUFF. Welcome to Kodiak Island. For the next 24 weeks you'll have the chance to prove that you've got what it takes to be among the few who can pilot a Jaeger. We need capable pilots, so if you don't think you can hack it, better drop out now. The course will follow the following format, so listen up, you have: 1) OFFICER TRAINING: You will be studying tactics, some engineering, basic kaiju science, etc. Study good and study hard and if you're lucky enough to make the cut, we'll be shipping your sorry asses on to — 2) PONS TRAINING: There is a mock-pod simulator where you will learn how to drift with your chosen partner. Can't find a partner? Too bad. You might have the physical skills and the brains to go with it, but if you can't bring yourself to work with another human being, then what the hell are you doing here. 3) JAEGER TRAINING: Alright, you've made it. Report to the test range and get your asses in a Jaeger. INSTRUCTIONS → 1. Post with your character/canon/preferences.    (Mod Note: Pacific Rim OCs are very much welcome, if not encouraged.) 2. Tag others. Tag a LOT. 3. Have FUN or we'll feed you to the kaiju.

[ Lydia pauses and considers Allison's argument about kaijus. ] Good point. [ She grimaces a little. ] Very well. Let them stay hideous! We need all the reasons to be rid of them.

[ She was reading a paragraph on kaiju categories when Allison mentions the movie title. ] I am very proud to say that I have neither heard of that movie before, nor have I watched it. Obviously, I have never been a fan of such monsters. Was it even remotely entertaining?

[ Lydia loathes the things. Ugliness notwithstanding, their arrival brought chaos to the world. She had a good life before this, a good plan for the future, but for the first kaiju to set foot in California, of all places, meant Lydia's life was changed forever, whether she liked it or not.

But now she's here in the academy, and she's going to be the best goddamned jaeger engineer the world has ever seen. She promised herself that she's going to be part of the team that gets rid of these monsters once and for all. ]

[ Allison chuckles, idly flipping through a few notes here and there, skimming them without processing. ] Entertaining because it was so terrible, even for its time it was bad. The special effects are nothing short of heinous.

[ It's a good laugh, especially if you're feeling particularly upset about the state of kaijus in the world. Godzilla has an atomic ray and tries to kill Mothra with a ferris wheel and it turns out that some monsters were meant to protect earth from a meteor.

Allison rests her chin on her knees, watching Lydia for a moment before speaking. ] I need to do something fun after this test.
