The Pan Pacific Defense Corps is an organization set up to battle the Kaiju threat through the use of Jaegers. Founded in 2014, the Corps represents an international alliance of 21 nations across the Pacific Rim, bound together by the shared goal of containing, combating and eliminating the Kaiju threat and save humanity from extinction.
In 2014, after the first Kaiju attack on San Francisco, the Pan Pacific Defense Corps was created with the purpose of defending the various countries surrounding the Pacific Ocean that would be under attack from the Kaiju. Soon after, the headquarters of the Pan Pacific Defense Corps was established in Hong Kong, China, this being the first Shatterdome. After Dr. Jasper Schoenfeld pitched the idea of creating giant mechs to battle the kaiju, the Corps were formed to fund the Jaeger Program.

>>Defense Corps Jaeger Academy. //:
Welcome to Kodiak Island. For the next 24 weeks you'll have the chance to prove that you've got what it takes to be among the few who can pilot a Jaeger. We need capable pilots, so if you don't think you can hack it, better drop out now. The course will follow the following format, so listen up, you have: 1) OFFICER TRAINING: You will be studying tactics, some engineering, basic kaiju science, etc. Study good and study hard and if you're lucky enough to make the cut, we'll be shipping your sorry asses on to — 2) PONS TRAINING: There is a mock-pod simulator where you will learn how to drift with your chosen partner. Can't find a partner? Too bad. You might have the physical skills and the brains to go with it, but if you can't bring yourself to work with another human being, then what the hell are you doing here. 3) JAEGER TRAINING: Alright, you've made it. Report to the test range and get your asses in a Jaeger. INSTRUCTIONS → 1. Post with your character/canon/preferences. (Mod Note: Pacific Rim OCs are very much welcome, if not encouraged.) 2. Tag others. Tag a LOT. 3. Have FUN or we'll feed you to the kaiju. |

As if he hadn't seen this beatdown coming. He just didn't expect her to be so quick on her feet. What's the score, now? 3-2? Not too bad; Hedge can't tell him sucks quite so much this time.
It's not over yet, he decides. They may both be on the floor now, but he's still got the staff, and this time he's close enough to attack from here. Rising into a kneeling position, he goes for a jab at her neck - not that he'd hit her, of course. But that would be a winning strike. ]

She almost doesn't see that coming, painfully jerking her head away, but taking the opportunity to grab the other end of the stick, twisting his arm around with an actual gleam in her eye, though her lips stay taut. ]

Okay, you win.
no subject
Good fight. [ She finally grins. ]
no subject
Yeah. You're really good. How is it you're not in a jaeger yet?
[ It's hard to find the right partner, he knows. He's only been looking for two weeks, but he's known some trainees who've been around longer. Still, finding someone drift compatible isn't his biggest priority. Hedge, on the other hand, has always been determined to find him a partner or die trying. Leo doubts it will get that far. Stupid overdramatic trainer.
Having resolved to ignore him until group training starts, Leo doesn't see Hedge looking between the two of them with an odd expression on his face. It hardly even registers that the usual yelling and criticism of every mistake he's made is missing. The trainer's gotten bored with him and left before, so whatever. He's not complaining. ]

[ Natalie's about to smirk but she soon catches sight of Hedge staring them both and she releases his hand. 'What?' she mouths, glancing between Leo and his training.
It takes her a second. ] You don't think ... ?
no subject
[ Turning to follow her gaze, he spots the trainer watching them in silence - the first indication that something's up. Looking from Natalie to Hedge and back, it starts to dawn on him, and he takes an unwilling step away. ]
What? No way! How could we... We just met!
[ There's a touch of panic in his voice. Good fight or not, he's still not pilot material, and he doesn't want a partner. ]
no subject
Hey, if you don't want me, that's cool. [ If he wanted to stay on the program doing the same thing over and over again, then so be it. However... ]
We could work well together, though. Really well.
no subject
[ She's got it all wrong! If he wanted a partner, he's sure Natalie would be great. Just from this fight, he knows she's better than anyone else they've considered partnering him with before now. But he doesn't want a partner, he doesn't want to drift he just wants to go back to being a mechanic like he's supposed to be. ]
no subject
- It sounds crazy, but I'm pretty sure we connected on some level? [ She wants desperately to move onto the next level. She'll take someone with less practice and experience. It isn't often that she reacts so instantly, but it isn't just her. Hedge saw it too. ]
Like, we followed each other's movements well and - hell, I need a partner.
no subject
You don't want me. There's a ton of pilots in this academy; you can find someone better. I'm just a mechanic! I don't pilot jaegers, I fix them.
[ He's needs a way out, but one look at Hedge makes it clear he's not getting out of this anytime soon. Cursing under his breath, he runs a hand through his hair. Why him? ]
no subject
[ Natalie clenches her fists, tightening her jaw for a moment. Okay. He's basically been against having a partner from the get go. Why did they bring this kid in in the first place? With another glance between Leo and Hedge, she spins her her heels and reaches for her bag, slinging her jacket over her shoulders.
In a second, Natalie stalks off towards her dormitory. ]
no subject
Sure they would, Leo thinks, but they all want to be here. They want to be heroes. He doesn't want to die. He never wanted to make anyone mad at him, either, but it's not like he's here by choice.
With a sigh, he tunes out the trainer's ranting and grabs his things. Group training should be starting soon; if he goes in late again, it would mean even more trouble. ]
no subject
It's not like she could force him one way or the other. That isn't in her nature. Maybe she had made herself feel that he had to be the one, just to move onto the next phase - but that isn't in her nature either.
She's only made it halfway to the living quarters when she turns around and heads back. It's time for a different approach and she'll wait for him after training. ]

Natalie almost looks relieved to have caught him since she hadn't been standing by the door for a while or anything. Her demeanor is sheepish, shoulders in and far more relaxed than they are whenever she fights. ]
Hey. Uh. Sorry to bother you again ...
no subject
Uh, hey.
no subject
[ She sighs. ] I mean, without kicking each other's asses and without Hedge hovering. [ It's all strategic. If just talking won't work then she knows it's time to move on. ]
Just - talking.
no subject
I could do with not getting my ass kicked for once, but you sure you don't want to wait until after I get a shower? Smell might knock you out before too long.
[ It's not as bad as some of the other guys coming out of that room, thankfully, and he's mostly just itching to wash off the sweat. And maybe, if she has to wait, she'll realize that he's not the copilot she wants so badly... That's not who he is. She and Hedge have to be wrong. ]
no subject
Uh, yeah. That would be way considerate of you, actually. [ Natalie even takes a step back, out of his way. Okay, so maybe she should have waited a little longer. ]
I'll see you later.
no subject
Fifteen minutes, and I can meet you back here.
[ It'll mean skipping a class, but he knows jaeger mechanics better than the teacher, so he wouldn't be missing much. And, true to his word, he's back in no time, hair wild and still dripping down the back of his new shirt. He's almost surprised to see her still there, and greets her with both eyebrows raised. ]
What'd you want to talk about, exactly?
[ Please say the weather. ]
no subject
Bookmarking her page with a slip of paper, she knits her brow. ]
I ... [ In theory, this was so much easier, but she's no conversationalist. ] How did you get into mechanics?
no subject
Um... My mom. I practically grew up in workshops, watching her fix things, and then she started teaching me, and I was a natural at it.
[ Shrug. The past is the past, and it's not his favorite thing to talk about. ]
no subject
[ She grins. People who follow their passions are people to be admired. ]
You're not bad at the combat part, you know. It's good to have pilots who know more than what we're given at the Academy. It's kind if why I've been taking more biology classes. [ It wasn't a backup plan. It was an extension of her education. ]
no subject
[ He's not looking at her when he says it, but his tone makes it clear he's trying to get his point across. Find someone else. Someone better. There's got to be plenty of pilots out there who'd be more than happy to partner with her.
When he looks back, he's got one eyebrow raised. ]
And why you sneak into unauthorized areas while we work on unstable machinery, right?
[ Or maybe she's just nuts. Does she even remember that? ]
