The Pan Pacific Defense Corps is an organization set up to battle the Kaiju threat through the use of Jaegers. Founded in 2014, the Corps represents an international alliance of 21 nations across the Pacific Rim, bound together by the shared goal of containing, combating and eliminating the Kaiju threat and save humanity from extinction.
In 2014, after the first Kaiju attack on San Francisco, the Pan Pacific Defense Corps was created with the purpose of defending the various countries surrounding the Pacific Ocean that would be under attack from the Kaiju. Soon after, the headquarters of the Pan Pacific Defense Corps was established in Hong Kong, China, this being the first Shatterdome. After Dr. Jasper Schoenfeld pitched the idea of creating giant mechs to battle the kaiju, the Corps were formed to fund the Jaeger Program.

Welcome to Kodiak Island. For the next 24 weeks you'll have the chance to prove that you've got what it takes to be among the few who can pilot a Jaeger. We need capable pilots, so if you don't think you can hack it, better drop out now. The course will follow the following format, so listen up, you have: 1) OFFICER TRAINING: You will be studying tactics, some engineering, basic kaiju science, etc. Study good and study hard and if you're lucky enough to make the cut, we'll be shipping your sorry asses on to — 2) PONS TRAINING: There is a mock-pod simulator where you will learn how to drift with your chosen partner. Can't find a partner? Too bad. You might have the physical skills and the brains to go with it, but if you can't bring yourself to work with another human being, then what the hell are you doing here. 3) JAEGER TRAINING: Alright, you've made it. Report to the test range and get your asses in a Jaeger. INSTRUCTIONS → 1. Post with your character/canon/preferences. (Mod Note: Pacific Rim OCs are very much welcome, if not encouraged.) 2. Tag others. Tag a LOT. 3. Have FUN or we'll feed you to the kaiju. |

if he knew that their instructor was watching them carefully, he might be a little more anxious about this. especially since one pair of classmates who'd already had enough of missed connections and bruised fingers were staring too. as it is, the rest of the room is pretty much fading away until all he's focused on is the exercise. the fight. he trusts yancy to let him know if there's something else he needs to pay attention to, or if there's some change-up they're gonna do. ]

(he'll find out months later that it was this, or something like this because this isn't competing, this is dialogue and trust and knowing that your partner has your back and he and Raleigh have always done that - school back lot, on the way home, fists up and backs together you wanna mess with the Becket boys you better bring it)
but there's something satisfying about the challenge in keeping time with his brother, pace rising but still steady.
When Raleigh's next strike comes, Yancy meets it and the sweeps their sticks in an arc, body cueing switch it even as he calls out: ] Change left [ and then they're circling the other way around. ]

which is why raleigh can read yancy's body language and is moving in the opposite direction even as his brother says change left. it's like being on the playground again, playing the mirror game and leaving the other kids in awe because he yance could outlast anyone.
it's fun, and this time he can't quite resist the laugh that bubbles up out of him as they move in sync around the mat. his head tilts to the side and his eyebrows raise, a silent this all we got? because if they're just going to be enjoying it now instead of exactly following what d'onofrio said to do, they might as well go for broke. ]
