The Pan Pacific Defense Corps is an organization set up to battle the Kaiju threat through the use of Jaegers. Founded in 2014, the Corps represents an international alliance of 21 nations across the Pacific Rim, bound together by the shared goal of containing, combating and eliminating the Kaiju threat and save humanity from extinction.

In 2014, after the first Kaiju attack on San Francisco, the Pan Pacific Defense Corps was created with the purpose of defending the various countries surrounding the Pacific Ocean that would be under attack from the Kaiju. Soon after, the headquarters of the Pan Pacific Defense Corps was established in Hong Kong, China, this being the first Shatterdome. After Dr. Jasper Schoenfeld pitched the idea of creating giant mechs to battle the kaiju, the Corps were formed to fund the Jaeger Program.

SO, YOU WANT TO PILOT A JAEGER. LET'S SEE IF YOU'RE UP TO SNUFF. Welcome to Kodiak Island. For the next 24 weeks you'll have the chance to prove that you've got what it takes to be among the few who can pilot a Jaeger. We need capable pilots, so if you don't think you can hack it, better drop out now. The course will follow the following format, so listen up, you have: 1) OFFICER TRAINING: You will be studying tactics, some engineering, basic kaiju science, etc. Study good and study hard and if you're lucky enough to make the cut, we'll be shipping your sorry asses on to — 2) PONS TRAINING: There is a mock-pod simulator where you will learn how to drift with your chosen partner. Can't find a partner? Too bad. You might have the physical skills and the brains to go with it, but if you can't bring yourself to work with another human being, then what the hell are you doing here. 3) JAEGER TRAINING: Alright, you've made it. Report to the test range and get your asses in a Jaeger. INSTRUCTIONS → 1. Post with your character/canon/preferences.    (Mod Note: Pacific Rim OCs are very much welcome, if not encouraged.) 2. Tag others. Tag a LOT. 3. Have FUN or we'll feed you to the kaiju.

[ chuck isn't out to try anyone's patience, she's just out to be the best at what she does and she doesn't suffer fools or anyone with less dedication or skill than she has. ( and there is also the fact that she has a few issues that she refuses to acknowledge and a few more that she refuses to admit and — well. )

she sits with one arm cradled to her chest and a sullen expression on her face. the one thing that helps with the pain is that the other guy? looks much worse. ]

[ a beat, and more angry than she usually lets herself get around the authority figures because whatever else might be true about charlotte hansen, she wants to become a ranger more than anything in the world and she isn't going to do anything to jeopardise that. ] Don't call me Charlotte. [ Allison isn't so terrible at this whole thing. With each punch thrown, when she wraps her hands around a bo staff, she feels stronger. Not necessarily just muscle strength - she feels like she's grown up a little, inch by inch, just by being in the Academy. She's going to make something of herself here.

Lydia, on the other hand, she is more than certain that Lydia will make a name for herself here. She lowers her tablet full of notes and smiles at her, sitting up and pulling her knees in to give her friend more room. ]

Right. Where do we start?

[ That's what she gets for not acting right away, relaxing so soon after two hits in.

While they're in this position, Natalie crosses her staff with his, hoping to use her weight to knock him onto his back again, gritting her teeth. She presses her heels into the ground, one foot in front of the other, enough to put some pressure before she gives a second push. ]

[ Though she makes him take a step back, he doesn't fall a second time. Instead, he digs in his heels and holds his ground there, holding the staff defensively. She's good. Hardly surprising, though; most people are better than him, one way or another. It's clear he's not the strongest of all the pilot trainees, but he didn't get to building jaegers by sitting behind a desk all day, and it shows when he pushes back.

Leo's strongest point as a fighter, however, has always been speed. He's quick; school taught him to be early on, when he was even more scrawny than he is now and was a prime target for bullies. Keeping the staff steady, Leo shifts his balance slightly to the back leg, and in one quick move, hooks his other foot behind hers and pulls. He owes her for making him fall. ]

[ Lydia isn't one to pursue actual physical activity if it isn't for gratification or for maintaining her figure, but enlisting as a cadet on this island meant long, grueling hours of physical exertion, and she endures all of it for one thing: jaeger tech. Nothing, not even bone-deep exhaustion, is going to get in her way.

She appreciates sparring though, and learning to use the wooden staffs has proven to be both practical (self-defense) and beneficial (combat knowledge). But this, all these data and details--she's in her element. Allison is an inspiration in training, and Lydia will see to it that her friend kicks ass on the theoretical side of things too. ]

Kaiju 101. I really wish they were a little less hideous though. Makes the image-name association a little more pleasant.

[ She takes out a sheaf of papers from her pile of books. These turn out to be kaiju sketches. She hands half to Allison. ] I indicated identifying characteristics with arrows. [ There are scribbles with said arrows, Lydia's personal commentary: count the spines / huge body, peanut head / this is just really ugly. ]

She knows he's got her and she quickly loses her balance, but she's fallen enough to know how to land. Natalie brings her left leg up and, switching the positions of their feet, hooks hers around his ankle. Sturdiness and quick thinking are two of her best qualities, tested time and time again.

Oddly enough, this is fun for her. ]

[ That help is appreciated. Of course, Allison grew up knowing all sorts of weapons technology, though not necessarily the ins and outs of the jaegers. Mom and Dad were consultants and teachers - her Aunt Kate, on the other hand, dealt with seedier venues.

That doesn't make her an expert. Surrounding herself with sharp minds and the best fighters from the around the world is a humbling experience. All she wants to do is improve and she's more than grateful that Lydia is playing a huge part in this. ]

I think people would want to kill them a little less if they were cute. [ Allison jokes, flipping through her digital notes as Lydia provides the commentary. ]

I'm pretty sure I watched a horror movie that predicted that one. [ She points. ] Godzilla Versus Mothra.

[ Using his own tactics against him is just plain unfair. With a yelp, he hits the ground, landing hard on his shoulder. He can hear the trainer struggling to call out orders between laughs as he rolls onto his back and sits up, eyeing Natalie with a new level of respect.

As if he hadn't seen this beatdown coming. He just didn't expect her to be so quick on her feet. What's the score, now? 3-2? Not too bad; Hedge can't tell him sucks quite so much this time.

It's not over yet, he decides. They may both be on the floor now, but he's still got the staff, and this time he's close enough to attack from here. Rising into a kneeling position, he goes for a jab at her neck - not that he'd hit her, of course. But that would be a winning strike. ]

[ Good one, she thinks. It's good to be on almost even ground. She's looked foolish before and has made people look like fools even more. Already, she's trying to predict Leo's moves, looking for his weaknesses while defending her own. It's no easy task, since the upper hand easily switches from person to person.

She almost doesn't see that coming, painfully jerking her head away, but taking the opportunity to grab the other end of the stick, twisting his arm around with an actual gleam in her eye, though her lips stay taut. ]

[ As soon as she hears the admission, Natalie releases him and rolls onto her feet once more, even extending a hand to her opponent. ]

[When he smiles, it's just for her. There's not a lot of times or people that make him smile, usually he keeps all of that under wraps and remains stoic, a military man through and through but when it's Caitlin? When he's around her? He's a different person.

He does have fun breaking down the egos of recruits though, can't even deny that.]

[ Taking her hand, Leo pulls himself back to his feet. ]

Yeah. You're really good. How is it you're not in a jaeger yet?

[ It's hard to find the right partner, he knows. He's only been looking for two weeks, but he's known some trainees who've been around longer. Still, finding someone drift compatible isn't his biggest priority. Hedge, on the other hand, has always been determined to find him a partner or die trying. Leo doubts it will get that far. Stupid overdramatic trainer.

Having resolved to ignore him until group training starts, Leo doesn't see Hedge looking between the two of them with an odd expression on his face. It hardly even registers that the usual yelling and criticism of every mistake he's made is missing. The trainer's gotten bored with him and left before, so whatever. He's not complaining. ]
