( her hunt has taken her far today, no chance of returning to the comfort of a bed tonight in sight. instead she finds a cave that takes her deeper than she ever expected to go.

within the depths of the cave sits a well, a miraculous find in these wilds. the water is so pure, she's certain it's safe to drink straight from the well. however, when she touches the surface her touch lingers as a light. tentatively, she traces patterns in the water. her touch leaves a trail of light that illuminates the patterns, then slowly dissipates after a few brief moments.

with a tilt of her head, she writes a new pattern: )

[ He's pretty sure he's on the right track back to the cave. Pretty sure of it. Mostly.

The notches he'd left on the trees from the cave to the shoreline and back again were a good idea. They were distinct enough for him to identify by touch, his fingers tracing the grooves in the shape of a rough even in the dim light.

His commlink was dead, and while his torch still had some power, he didn't want to waste it in case he might need it in emergency.

When he finally finds the cave again, it's the light that catches his attention first. It's faint and flickering in the distance--

--Right. The well.

He's got a hand on his sidearm at that. The water only pulsed with light if touched. ]

( she has no ability to sense the approach of others magically, but she hears something a distance off.

or rather, not that far off at all.

her hand stills, and she doesn't make another movement. it could easily be a lost rabbit. or so she thinks. that is until she hears it again. it's a footstep, light on the ground but far too slow for a rabbit's curious grazing. the sound is thicker than a rabbit's feet would be.

it's also intentionally muted. something is trying to approach carefully.

she draws her bow from her back, taking with it an arrow as she notches and aims low. if it's a hunting creature, she needs to be able to strike it fast. if it's a person... an arrow to the leg was still a good impediment. )

Is someone there? Or something?

[ He doesn't expect that. When he'd surfaced on the coastline, he hadn't seen a person for miles. ]

My name is Josh Brennan of the Silay Coastal Defense Forces.

[ He'll come into view at that: a man in his prime dressed in a mussed up uniform and a plain gray shirt with day-old blood dried on the hem. His sidearm is lowered with the finger off the trigger. His free hand is up in what he hopes is a gesture of non-aggression.

Honestly, he's plenty relieved that there's another person around. Where there's one there are usually towns or even cities, which means he isn't too lost. ]

I find they're very prone to it on the whole. All of them. They either think they're gonna get it even when you won't look at them or they miss every signal like it's their job to do so.

on the whole the teasing is fine and enjoyable but sometimes an itch deserves to be scratched and boy keeps missing the memo

what can i say? with giant chimera-esque creatures, floors don't usually stay solidly beneath you.

as we say where i'm from, handsome: "it's easy to fix cold, you just put more things on, but when it's hot i can't exactly take off my skin."

so yes, stripping was necessary. i didn't want to get heatstroke.
