The Pan Pacific Defense Corps is an organization set up to battle the Kaiju threat through the use of Jaegers. Founded in 2014, the Corps represents an international alliance of 21 nations across the Pacific Rim, bound together by the shared goal of containing, combating and eliminating the Kaiju threat and save humanity from extinction.

In 2014, after the first Kaiju attack on San Francisco, the Pan Pacific Defense Corps was created with the purpose of defending the various countries surrounding the Pacific Ocean that would be under attack from the Kaiju. Soon after, the headquarters of the Pan Pacific Defense Corps was established in Hong Kong, China, this being the first Shatterdome. After Dr. Jasper Schoenfeld pitched the idea of creating giant mechs to battle the kaiju, the Corps were formed to fund the Jaeger Program.

SO, YOU WANT TO PILOT A JAEGER. LET'S SEE IF YOU'RE UP TO SNUFF. Welcome to Kodiak Island. For the next 24 weeks you'll have the chance to prove that you've got what it takes to be among the few who can pilot a Jaeger. We need capable pilots, so if you don't think you can hack it, better drop out now. The course will follow the following format, so listen up, you have: 1) OFFICER TRAINING: You will be studying tactics, some engineering, basic kaiju science, etc. Study good and study hard and if you're lucky enough to make the cut, we'll be shipping your sorry asses on to — 2) PONS TRAINING: There is a mock-pod simulator where you will learn how to drift with your chosen partner. Can't find a partner? Too bad. You might have the physical skills and the brains to go with it, but if you can't bring yourself to work with another human being, then what the hell are you doing here. 3) JAEGER TRAINING: Alright, you've made it. Report to the test range and get your asses in a Jaeger. INSTRUCTIONS → 1. Post with your character/canon/preferences.    (Mod Note: Pacific Rim OCs are very much welcome, if not encouraged.) 2. Tag others. Tag a LOT. 3. Have FUN or we'll feed you to the kaiju.

[Frankly? Glenn feels sick.

This is a little more intense than he figured and hands-on training really did mean hands-on. It's why he makes a face, almost retches as the guts get spilled onto the table. Fine examples of weaknesses, sure but....

If his hands weren't already covered in kaiju blood, he'd cover his mouth. Looking over to his tablemate, he pulls a face, looks a little pale.] Wow, you're uh.. Really into this, huh?

[ Q scoops up some of the kaiju guts, bringing them closer. Kaiju studies were one of his favorite classes, he wouldn't say that though. Secret kaiju groupie at heart and probably wouldn't hear the end of it from some of the other students.]

Definitely... [He turns to look at his tablemate and seeing that it seems he can't stomach that well.] You're running a bit on the pale end, mate. [makes a circular motion in front of his own face with a small smile.]

My old man's a ranger.

[ chuck's pretty sure no one else is going to be able to keep up with him. he doesn't want anyone else in his head, either, if he can help it. ]

[ the bruise on her cheek, the split knuckles and her wrist is probably sprained. all in all, that's not too bad. ]

Mark Cho. [ she knows better than to keep information from caitlin, at least, though the answer is given grudgingly. ]

[His cheeks puff out as he gags, biting the sound down as a cough that twists his stomach, makes the nausea even worse. Seeing what the other's doing doesn't make him that enthusiastic on things, but he manages to pull a dry look for the comment, lips twisting.]

Ha, that. That's funny. [He mutters a little comment under his breath ("ass") as he goes back to examining the remains, head turning away so that he can take in a breath at least.] How can you get so into this? It doesn't even smell like anything I know.

[He would have rubbed his back if he didn't have kaiju blood on his hands, so instead keeps a soft expression as he reaches for tools to cut these bad boys open.

It'll take him awhile to get used to the smell. Everyone does.]

I enjoy hands-on type of activities. [He wiggles his fingers.] And you'll eventually be able to stomach the smell, probably should invest in a respirator if you don't.

[Yeah, Chuck, he knows. He was there when Herc went through the program himself. And he likes your old man. Sergio's not sure if he really likes Chuck.]

I should've thought about that... [He's gutted chickens and squirrels before (thanks to a "friend" back home) but oh, this? This is way worse. Coughing into an arm, Glenn gives a nod, tries to sober up enough so he can watch the other at work.] Ugh, hands-on activities? Get out of here.

[Annnd turning away again once there's that squick sound for the thing being opened.] Aww, come on-!

#2 + first post drift hangover

[ They warned him what it would be like, the Drift and the hangover. He listened in class, he watched the videos, read the accounts, did his homework. Thought himself prepared—it's only now he's realizing how you can't be prepared enough for something like this, for having someone else in your mind, the web of their memories and thoughts and deepest, most primal feelings cueing yours, back and forth and back and forth until you're sure there's nothing they don't know about you. At least he and Yancy grew up together. At least they understand each other, the way brothers mostly do. How can strangers stand to do this with one another? Fathers, sons? Husbands, wives? Is it a good thing, to be so intimate?

It's terrifying, he thinks. And it's exhilarating.

Sitting at the desk in his quarters, Raleigh rubs his fingers restlessly over bruised knuckles, trying to create some sort of sensation that will recall him to himself. In his mouth, the bitter taste of coffee; his scalp tingles like someone is running hands through his hair. He catches himself laughing at nothing. It's funny, it's weird, it's not his it's Yancy's, he feels it, he tastes it, this body isn't his own. Raleigh gets up. It's not good to be apart, he thinks, not now. He needs to be next to his brother. He needs to be able to look at him and see someone separate from himself.

His steps take him to the mess hall. He doesn't think, doesn't need to, just goes.

He swings a leg over and sits down straddling the bench Yancy occupies. ] Hey, man. Stop thinking so loudly. [ It's a joke, mostly. ]

I have an extra, that i could bring next session for you. If you'd like, of course.
[He cuts into one of the smaller kaiju organs, hoping nothing decides to spew in his face... Safe from Kaiju blood this time! He prods at it before moving onto the next.]

You should see me with a keyboard, I don't think anyone here could even come close. So what brings you here, it's become quite evident you're unable to stomach this. [Q wouldn't be surprised if he vomits everywhere or passes out or both. Most likely both at this rate. Pretty sure he'd be quite amused with any of the outcomes, as he cuts into one of the bigger organs.]

What I want is to pilot a jaeger. [ he doesn't want to become his father's co-pilot, he wants to become a pilot. there's a distinction there.

and hell, what does he care whether you like him or not? what does he care whether anyone likes him? the point is to be a good pilot, not to be a likable human being. that doesn't matter. ]

[ He was just about to leave. The coffee was helping to ground him, and Tendo's company from across the table was a centering point as well, but even surrounded by seasoned pilots - all of whom were giving him tips and input on how to deal with the post-drift hangover.

It had been one of the older pilots who had reassured him that the first time is always the roughest, and that it varied from person to person, but that maybe it would be better if he was around his kid brother more. You two are already attached at the hip, I'm surprised he's back in your quarters and you're out here.

He knows the precise moment Raleigh enters the mess. Has an idea of how Raleigh gets a feel of where exactly he is and by the time his brother is three steps from their table, Yancy's alread turning around, an arm reaching out to touch his brother before he catches the kid by the neck and drags him over. ]

Could say the same for you. [ They've always been physically comfortable with each other - the result of tussles and fights, of years sharing the same room, of watching each other's backs in school, on the way home and similar situations. Yancy's got his arm around Raleigh's shoulders now, gets this odd sensation that isn't his because no one's got an arm around him and-

N-Not soon enough, but I appreciate the thought. [A hiccup this time as he shakes his head, eyes closed at the sight, the smell, the.. everything. At least the other guy's talking about something not Kaiju guts, so he's appreciative of that. He turns slightly, looks more at his deskmate than the mess.]

Seriously? What the heck are you doing here? [Mouth to his arm, he stomachs whatever's from breakfast.] I'm trying to become a pilot, make things better.

... Don't think I'm gonna get far at this rate.

[ Relief lights up inside of him. It comes with the drop of Yancy's arm around his shoulders, familiar, protective, a sensation he can catalogue: not him but Yancy, just like Yancy, as though he's still a kid who needs looking after. Raleigh's shoulder knocks into him as he leans his weight into the hold, their heads bumping together. He didn't know he would need this. Around the table the other Rangers are looking at them with annoying smiles, like they all expected it from the beginning, but he didn't know.

They're the same, him and his brother, when a few minutes before he wasn't sure it wouldn't destroy who they were irreparably, being in each other's heads like that. But it's different, too, because he can't stop marveling at the fact that he is holding onto his younger brother and knocking him over with reassurance like ocean waves; that he keeps remembering it isn't him, he's the one being held, and then forgetting again, and wanting to laugh. They're brothers. They've always been close. But it's one thing to know it and another thing to feel it, to feel your brother's approval in your bones, something that's stamped itself on you and isn't going away. ]

Hope you can handle it. Your brain's just gonna have to keep up. [ He's smiling, lifting the cup of coffee from the table. Physically, he feels good, feels like he could go run a few miles out on the grounds if he could convince Yancy to come with him, unless he felt like sparring in the Kwoon instead, wrestling him on the mats like a couple of dogs roughhousing. ] You drinking the rest of this?

[ The words fuck yes go through his head, but Yancy presses his lips together and counts all the way to two-fifty, keeping steady pace all the way to the very end even if his arms feel like they're ready to turn into jell-o.

when he finishes, he stands up, whole body shaking from the effort of being upright; a stitch in his side making him wince just a little. ] Two hundred and fifty, sir.

[ Keep it together, Becket. You are not allowed to throw up.

That would be embarrassing. ]

Excuse you, runt. Remember who's got seniority. [ He's not even going to stop smiling because it's just... it's hard to describe, how happy he feels. How okay and great this all is, him and Raleigh, the Becket boys and their successful first drift. ] No man, take it. There's a fresh pot over there though, if you want. I can grab you some.

[ He's always willing to go run a few miles with you, Rals. Go a few rounds in the Kwoon. Just do everything at this point because you may not know it, but if he's the ocean then you're the shore. A steadying point in his life. Always have been, after everything that's happened.

I got you, kid. And isn't that the truth. ]

[ And man, he would want to be the shore. He would want to be anything solid for Yancy to lean on, because he's done so much for him, looked after him all the way to the Shatterdome and into the Conn-Pod of a Jaeger, when anyone else could have turned away because technically he's an adult now, and even if he wasn't he would still have been a soldier. But he never did and Raleigh feels that now, he gets it, the significance of what they are to one another: that with parents dead and baby sister gone, really there's no one else in the world. ]

Nah, this is good.

[ His free hand grips Yancy's shoulder. Stay here. He's got exactly what he needs just now and he'd really rather not go apart. Even just for coffee. Here, or in the quarters or in the Kwoon or wherever: they hang around each other all the time anyway, why should now be any different? They're co-pilots. The first time they face a Kaiju together will be exactly like this: together. And they'll win, he knows they will, because he's been in his brother's head and he's felt a whole mountain of determination in there, big enough to match his own. ]

If you say so. [Q makes an effort to rub the other's back with his forearm, hoping not to get kaiju blood on him. Only a matter of time before he pukes.]

I have an interest in Kaiju so i took the course, if you're around long enough, I'm sure you'll hear the rumors or nicknames about me. Which i won't address here seeing as other students may be listening in. [He gives a head tilt and that smile returns.]

Pretty sure the fighting will keep you busy on trying to stay alive then a looking out for kaiju guts. I look forward to ordering you around if you make it as a pilot seeing as I'm here to get into mission control.

The nick- 'kaiju geek' is you? [A little snort as he pulls a face for the idea. Man, he should have known that out of all the people he'd get paired with, it'd be the guy most enthusiastic about them, from what he's heard. A slow breath in and he shakes his head, makes the attempt to sober up.] Hah, sure. I'd totally look forward to being bossed around.

Because some people are just weird, that's why. But Tendo's pretty cool with the resident kaijuphile, weirdness and all. Everyone views the world a different way. Some in more unconventional ways compared to others. ] Drop by K-Science one of these days and look for Newt Geiszler. Can't miss him: glasses, a little bit mad-scienty-looking, tats on his forearms. [ Of Kaiju. Huh. Might have to give the doc a head's up not to brag about his Knifehead tat too much. ]

He's a little [ what was that word ] enthusiastic, about his job. But you'll learn a lot more about the kaiju form listening to him than you will in that textbook.
